the struggle of the poor can not be led by intellectuals, academics, NGO's, Expects etc. Let the poor be the intellectuals of their own struggles, define their own struggles and alternatives. let the poor be guided by their own organic thinking and perspectives not by Marxist, Lenin and Trotsky

Transformation

(Aviwe Liwani writes while Ziyanda and others looking at her)

My experience at Training For Transformation in Grail Center at Kleinmond.

My Name is Aviwe, I am 20 years old, matriculated last year at Kamvalethu high school.

I am staying at Khayelitsha at UT informal Settlement, UT informal settlement is one of the settlements that are working with ABM Western Cape and I am participating at ABM WC youth programs (see simunye1 at the website)

As a member of ABM youth I was given opportunity by ABM WC to go and attend a Training for Transformation course which was R1400 and we were given 50 % discount of R 750 and ABM WC paid R1400 for two people (course started on the 5/10/08 till 10/10/08).

Here I am talking about my experience as a young women, who comes from disadvantage background, who grew up at Khayelitsha and does not have a formal training and this was my first course to attend after completing high school.

Firstly I will start with the environment at Grail centre, its totally different from where i come from ,the area is very peaceful, relaxed and healthy.Socialising with different people and different cultures.

To me this course is an opportunity of a life time because not everyone is exposed to opportunities like this one.The course was all about community development and how to over come the challenges we're facing in our different communities, also about team work and trust building between the leaders and the community members. Most of all what I learnt is how to facilitate in a way that everybody can be clear and relate to the chosen topic.

Coming up with different ideas and choosing the most relevant issues and solutions giving people a chance to share their experiences in reality out of code or a skit, the code/skit must be clear and simple to understand. This is hard work and commitment in making a difference in my community. Its all about TRANSFORMATION!

That sounds very cool. So what exactly is transformation?
